The Scotchman and the Robbers
    A Scotchman was attacked by three highwaymen, and defended himself with great courage. After much difficulty, the robbers succeeded in overpowering him, and his pockets were searched. They expected, after such a severe struggle, to find a large sum of money; but were surprised to discover he had only a sixpence, and this was all the treasures he had been defending at the risk of his life. "Why, "said one of the rogues, "if he had had eightpence he would have killed the whole lot of us."
