Chinanews, Guangzhou, May 31 – The Guangdong provincial government has worked out a revised draft version of the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests. On Tuesday, the revised version was submitted to the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress for discussion. The revised version forbids any married person to live with someone who is not his or her spouse. The law also disallows anybody to intentionally live together with someone else although the person involved already knows that the person he or she lives with is married.
The right to marry and have a family is considered as one of the basic rights of women. In recent years, some family problems have emerged in society. Some people, although they already have set up their families, still keep a mistress or a lover, causing a negative impact on social harmony. The new revised law is intended to protect the monogamy system.
The new law aims to maintain and promote family stability. According to the new law, anyone who violates the regulation will be given over to the police for administrative penalty. Those whose offense constitutes a crime will be subjected to punishment by law, said Cheng Jingchu, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress Legal Committee.
