Chinanews, Beijing, May 31 – A recent report shows that most Beijing residents blame auto emission for the heavy pollution in the city. Beijing residents give only 70 out of 100 to mark their living environment status.
The Beijing Environmental Protection Publicizing Center on Wednesday published a survey on the public's environmental awareness. The report shows that air pollution and noises are the two major problems that affect local people’s living conditions. 78% of the Beijing residents say that the government should do something to handle the noise pollution problem in the city.
The report also shows that urban dwellers and people living in suburban areas hold different views in regard to the pollution problem. Most urbanites think that gas emission, dust at construction sites and dust caused by degradation of green lots are the main source of pollution, while only a small number of suburban people think in the same way. For suburban people, burning coal and industrial production are the main pollutant causers.
When asked what are the effective measures to control environmental pollution, most city dwellers think that strict measures should be taken to control dust at construction sites. In addition, the government should raise gas emission standards for automobiles. People living in suburban areas think the most effective way to improve the environment is to do more ecological construction.
