Chinanews, Beijing, June 1 – The human-assisted reproduction technology and human sperms banks should be used only for limited purposes. China does not allow such medical technologies to become commercialized or industrialized and China will strictly control the number of institutions that deal with such technologies, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Thursday.
At present, the development of the human-assisted reproduction technology and human sperms banks are relatively imbalanced. In some places, some medical institutions are illegally involved in practicing such technologies without getting the state's approval. They sell sperms and make test-tube babies for profit. In some places, prompted by economic gains, such technologies tend to become a commercialized industry.
In order to properly supervise the use of such technologies, the Ministry of Health requires various local medical administrative institutions to thoroughly check the usage of such technologies in their areas. MOH also requires administrative institutions to severely punish those illegal activities.
MOH said that for medical institutions that conduct researches on human-assisted reproduction technology beyond their work scope, and those who offer sex discrimination services for non-medical purpose, should be punished and their work licenses should be revoked. The illegal sales and collection of sperms without government approval, the illegal production of test-tube babies, and the illegal supply of sperms should also be punished.
Those who do not obtain related medical licenses and yet are involved in using the human-assisted reproduction technology and the illegal collection, sales, and provision of sperms, will be dealt with in a special campaign against these activities, and those who violate the law will be subject to legal punishment, MOH said.
