Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 21 – The China Youth Daily Social Investigation Center and the Information Center of tecent. com released the result of a joint survey last Thursday. The survey shows that 94.2% of the Chinese public think that their life is affected by the current price hike. 79.3% of the respondents say that food quality has been on the decline since this summer.
About 14,267 people participated in the survey, which lasted for only one day. The survey shows that since the beginning of this summer, 94.9% of the people have spent more on their daily costs. Among them, 12.1% say their living costs have increased by less than 100 yuan; 24.3% say their living costs have increased by 100-200 yuan; 33.8% say by 200-400 yuan; 14.0% say by 400-600 yuan; and 10.7% say by more than 600 yuan.
While most people spend more on daily expenses, their life quality has become worse than before. In the survey, 79.3% of the respondents say the food they eat has become worse than before; 47.0% say food quality has decreased “a little bit” while 32.3% say it has “decreased a lot.”
86.3% of the respondents say low- and middle-income earners suffer most from the current price hike.
Most Chinese expect that the price hike is still on and will continue in future. Although experts predict that Chinese CPI growth is still at “a controllable range” and, if China can have a good harvest in autumn, food price will fall dramatically, the public do not think this way. In the survey, 75.1% of the people predict that commodity price will “continue to rise” by the end of this year; 21.8% of the people say commodity price will “remain at the current level” by the end of the year. Only 3.1% of the people think commodity price will return to the previous level.
