Guo went into the finals ranked second among the eight remaining competitors. Ahead of her was Russian shooter Natalia Paderina, who bettered the former Olympic record in a preliminary round.
But Guo triumphed in the end while Paderina, with 489.1 points, settled for a silver.
The bronze medal was snared by Nino Salukvadze from Georgia with 487.4 points.
In weightlifting, China's Long Qingquan picked up a total of 292 kilograms to win the gold medal for the men's 56-kilogram division.
